Summary
"This book follows upon the earlier published Dunvegan Post Journals for 1806 and 1808: being an account of the activities at the post as recorded by Alexander Roderick McLeod. It includes transcriptions the journals of the senior officers at the post between 1822 and 1830, with certain periods not included because either the post was closed, the journals are missing, or the officers were away. The journal entries provide details on daily affairs around the post and in the district, and contain much information on the nature of the fur trade, the activities of Aboriginal bands in the region, and relations between them and the traders working for the Hudson's Bay Company. They also reveal much about the Métis engagés who were employed by the HBC, and the nature of their work in the fur trade and in maintaining Dunvegan as a fur trade post. The journals are accompanied by an introduction and detailed commmentaries."--
